Flightless

Last night I thought I heard a little wisdom
It came from someplace different
It came from someplace whole
Here among the flightless we raced
We save our dreams for nighttime
For that's all we can chase

We took our flags and flew them in the summer
Played throughout the winter
But fell back in the fall
One step before another she climbs
She's walking to what's mine
We're still walking

We are flightless
Here on our island
How long, how long
And what a pity we are stranded
For they have landed
For far too long

We wrapped ourselves in leaves and called it autumn
Rose above the valleys
Frozen down below
I told them I could fly then they couldn't
I wanted to but shouldn't
And so I came back down to Earth

We are flightless
Here on our island
How long, how long
And what a pity we are stranded
For they have landed
For far too long
